2 Charge your laptop's battery entirely, if you are using one, plus connect it to a wall outlet. If the battery for your laptop or iPhone dies throughout the software update, it could render the iPhone inoperable. If you are using a desktop computer, skip this action.

3 Launch iTunes. Wait to a moment to see if a window appears asking if you would wish to update iTunes. If one warn comes up informing you that an update for iTunes is obtainable, click "Yes" to install it. Restart iTunes after the update is complete.

4 Connect the iPhone to your computer, and wait for it to be detected from iTunes.

5 Click the icon representing the iPhone on the left side about the screen.

6 Click the "Update" button on the primary portion regarding the window, under the big iPhone picture. If an update is available, a window will appear asking you to download it.

7 Read the window to determine what fixes also new features are available in the iPhone software update, then click "Subsequent" to proceed by the installation. Your iPhone will be updated through the most fresh software.
